The Plague Doctor

I decided to give this one a try.

In case You didn't know, this outfit was designed in 17th Century for doctors responsible for taking care of those sick with Plague (or Black Death, as it is most commonly known). 
Back then people believed diseases spread through foul-smelling air, so the suit was designed to keep contaminated air out of the Doctor's skin, and the mask was basically an air-filter, purifying the air with herbs or perfumes inside the beak. The cane allowed the Doctor to examine patient without having to touch them.

As might be expected at the time, many of them were doctors only by name, and actually their job was just to provide statistics of the Plague's deathtoll. The suit sort of provided some protection from the disease. It kept the flees off the doctor's skin, but didn't kill them, which meant the Plague Doctors often unintentionally helped the disease spread via their working uniforms.

Yeah, no wonder today people think of it as a Death Messenger outfit.
